Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:

  1. Heads up Deep River town residents, the Town of Deep River will be holding a special town meeting on Tuesday, September 13, immediately following the Board of Selectmen regular meeting at the Richard H. Smith Town Hall. The meeting is being held to approve actions of the Board of Selectmen's and Board of Finance's regular meeting of July 26. At issue is approval of the purchase of a fully outfitted police vehicle with a purchase price not to exceed $65,000.(Town of Deep River)
  2. The 2022 Chester Dog Fair will be held on September 17 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chester Fair Grounds. Offering a plethora of dog-centered activities, vendors and information the event is a must-attend for dog lovers! There will also be live music, a beer and a wine tent and food trucks! Tickets are $10 per family and $5 for individuals. All proceeds will go to benefit Homeward Bound CT, a non-profit, 501(C)3 organization. Hope to see you there!   3. The Essex Historical Society is holding its annual meeting on Sunday, October 2 at 5:15 - 6:30 p.m. at the beautiful and historic Ivoryton Playhouse. Come join your friends and neighbors and recount a successful year. In addition, look forward to exploring Ivoryton in EHS's final installment of the Follow the Falls project with Essex Land Trust.   • Town of Deep River: "Did You Know? Deep River Celebrates 75 Years of Independence. In 1947, Dick Mansfield opened his family restaurant, The Dog House. The sign reads "Where A Bites A Delight" and was a favorite place for Deep River. It is the present day Celebrations.
