Essex Ed Is Back

Although there will be no annual Essex Ed Ground Hog Parade this year, due to Covid-19, Essex Ed has returned to his spot in downtown Essex.

ESSEX, CT — Thanks to J. Alden and the Essex Board of Trade, Essex Ed was able to make his annual appearance at the top of Main Street in downtown Essex.

Although there will be no parade this year for the local celebrity, due to Covid-19 health concerns, the six-foot tall, giant, paper mache rodent still wanted to make sure he got his day in the sun. And, in usual Essex Ed style, he is dressed to impress, with his Covid face mask, to ensure that he is being safe and healthy. He is also adorning a white doctor's coat, with his name embroidered on it, a stethoscope and of course, a giant rodent sized vile of the vaccine.

"I think it is great that the Essex Board of Trade was able to get Essex Ed in place for Groundhog Day, in spite of the pandemic," said First Selectman Norm Needleman. "He is a reminder that there is a new season coming soon. He looks great!"
