100 Coronavirus Deaths In Fairfield

The number of coronavirus deaths in Fairfield had exceeded 100 as of Wednesday.

FAIRFIELD, CT — As of Wednesday, more than 100 Fairfield residents had died in connection with the coronavirus, according to town data.

The 102 deaths are more than three times the number of virus fatalities in town a month ago, when there were 33 virus-associated deaths.

"My prayers continue to be with those families who have lost a loved one during this very difficult time," First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick said Wednesday in an email to residents.

Of the residents who had died as of Wednesday, nearly 90 percent resided in one of Fairfield's seven nursing homes or assisted living facilities, according to the town, and 74 of the deceased were over age 80. All but three were older than 60.

Month-over-month, confirmed coronavirus cases in Fairfield nearly doubled, from 300 to 542, according to state data. Of those virus patients, 220 had recovered as of Wednesday, according to town data, which also said virus hospitalizations have been declining for weeks in Fairfield County.

Across Connecticut, confirmed cases also roughly doubled month-over-month, from 19,815 to 39,017, according to state data. Deaths more than doubled, going from 1,331 to 3,529, and hospitalizations dropped from 1,919 to 887.
