2 Women Robbed At Gunpoint Outside Fairfield School: Police

The school was briefly placed in a "secure school" condition until authorities cleared the area, police said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Two women were robbed at gunpoint Wednesday near The Southport School, according to Fairfield police.

A school employee reported she and a coworker had parked their vehicles and were walking to the school before 7:30 a.m. when they saw a man on Main Street, police said. The man approached them, displayed a black or silver handgun, and demanded the women turn over their phones and bags, according to police.

The women complied and fled into the school, which was briefly placed in a "secure school" condition until authorities cleared the area, police said.

The suspect reportedly fled toward Harbor Road, where it is believed he entered a vehicle and left the area, according to police.

"No injuries were reported during this incident," police said in a news release. "There is no indication to believe there is any threat to the public. This appears to be an isolated incident, which remains under investigation at this time."
