FAIRFIELD, CT — Three Fairfield Ludlowe High School students have been named National Merit Scholarship Corporation Semifinalists, giving them the opportunity to compete for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships, which combined are worth nearly $28 million.

Spencer Bradley, Natalie Compare and Campbell Treschuk are among more than 16,000 students in the United States to receive semifinalist status; the final awards will be distributed in the spring.

"To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition," the corporate officials said in a statement. "About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title."
