The 5% Day is a community giving day when Whole Foods Market stores donate five percent of their daily proceeds to a local nonprofit. The program runs three times a year and focuses on charities that support specific initiatives including health, education and the environment. Whole Foods Market in Fairfield has held ten five percent days and donated more than $30,000 to local organizations since they opened their doors in June, 2011.

“The Fairfield Theatre Company was selected because of its successful educational program, Saturday Kids Workshop, that is held once a month at StageOne in Fairfield.” Whole Foods Market Marketing Team Leader Liz Giegerich said.

The Saturday Kids Workshop is held in conjunction with the K.E.Y.S. program in Bridgeport, which brings students to FTC for a day of music instruction and learning. The program is designed to help students whose in-school music programs have been reduced or eliminated. Some of the best music teachers in the area give the children music lessons and teach them various forms of music on different instruments.

In addition to donating five percent of their sales on April 8th, Whole Foods Market has also signed on to donate healthy lunches for students during the monthly workshops. “We love how the Fairfield Theatre Company has teamed up with KEYS to help bring music to children in our communities,” said Whole Foods Market’s Giegerich. “Holding a 5% Day for FTC’s hyper-local educational and musical program is an exciting way for us to exemplify our core value of supporting our local community and educational initiatives. We are also excited to donate healthy lunches to the kids every month.”

"Whole Foods is a great community supporter," said Joseph Rog, FTC's Director of Corporate and Community Partnerships.  "We thank them for helping us to continue to offer this important program to area children.”

The Fairfield Theatre Company is urging all of their supporters to take advantage of this great opportunity by shopping at the Whole Foods Market on April 8th. FTC will be on hand and will be giving away tickets and FTC merchandise freebies throughout the day. Join Whole Foods Market, K.E.Y.S, and Fairfield Theatre Company by getting out and coming together to help support music education.
