Alex Beyer, Concert Pianist and Friends Will Perform on Thursday, June 23, 7:30pm

Award-winning local pianist, Alex Beyer, returns to Pequot Library for the first of three concerts in a summer soirée series.

Alex Beyer, piano and John Lee, cello will perform works of Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Prokofiev in a summer soirée to benefit Pequot Library.

About the Musicians:
Alex Beyer has acquired an impressive array of prestigious concert appearances nationally and internationally. In 2016, he was the bronze medalist in the Queen Elisabeth Competition, and was named one of five finalists of the American Pianists Association Awards. In the last year, he has been a guest soloist with the Brussels Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Royal Orchestra of Wallonia, the Harvard Radcliffe Orchestra, and the Irish National Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Milwaukee, Charlotte, Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, and Bridgeport Symphony Orchestras, among others. He received Sixth Prize at the 2015 US Chopin Competition. He was the recipient of Third Prize, as well as the Beethoven and Irish National Symphony Orchestra special awards at the 2015 Dublin International Piano Competition.

He has studied with Yoshie Akimoto, Dr. Matti Raekallio, and Melvin Chen. He is currently studying with Russell Sherman and Wha Kyung Byun at the New England Conservatory, and studying mathematics at Harvard.

John Lee began playing cello at the age of eight under the tutelage of Ella Toovy. At the age of ten, John entered the Juilliard Pre-College Division, where he studied with Minhye Clara Kim. He is currently studying with Laurence Lesser at the New England Conservatory as well as History of Science and Statistics at Harvard as part of the Dual Degree Program. John has given performances in Carnegie-Weill Recital Hall, Paul Hall, the New World Center and Paine Hall. He has appeared on NPR's radio show From the Top, The Young Musician's Forum in Schenectady, New York, and was named a 2012 YoungArts Finalist. John has participated in the Academie Internationale de Courchevel, Orford Music Festival, Great Mountains Music Festival, and The International Holland Music Sessions, partaking in masterclasses with Jian Wang, Sung Won Yang, Gary Hoffman, Myung Wha Chung, and David Geringas. In addition to performing, John enjoys transcribing music for chamber settings.
