Survey Launched In Fairfield For Feedback On Road Infrastructure

Called the Fairfield Safe Streets for All Safety Action Plan - Public Survey, the questionnaire will be live through the end of the month.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield has launched a survey to gather feedback on the future of the town's road infrastructure.

"The Town is currently working with a consultant team to develop a Safe Streets for All Safety Action Plan to improve road safety," officials wrote in message to residents.

"The Plan will outline a 10-year strategy for enhancing safety, with the goal of eliminating traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries. This is the same goal outlined in the Town's Vision Zero pledge which was adopted in 2024."

Called the Fairfield Safe Streets for All Safety Action Plan - Public Survey, the questionnaire will be live through the end of the month, and uses an "interactive map-based format" that allows users to pick specific areas where they believe improvements are needed.

"You can highlight up to five points of concern, and up to two areas where the Town is getting it right," officials said.

In recent years, Fairfield has made road safety a priority, and recently installed speed cameras at a half-dozen school zones in an effort to slow down traffic in those areas.

The speed camera program has proved to be controversial to some, but Fairfield Police Chief Michael Paris says the ends justify the means.

"At the end of the day, every parent dropping off a child at school, every student crossing a roadway, every crossing guard standing at an intersection, and every pedestrian walking through one of these corridors deserves to be safe," Paris wrote in a recent statement about the initiative. "That is the standard I will continue to apply. That is exactly why this program was implemented. And that is exactly what success looks like."

On Tuesday, July 14, the town will host a public information session on its road safety initiatives. The hearing will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Fairfield Warde High School auditorium.
