In 2011 the Town of Fairfield expanded its recycling program to a single stream recycling system to increase the amount of residential and commercial recyclables and adhere to the updated State municipal and business recycling and collection law (Public Act 10-87).
The Town, the Solid Waste Recycling Director and the Commission would like to thank the residents for their effort this year. As is the case with any new program the new system has been omewhat of a challenge. So to help the community with this very importantinitiative here’s the How?, What?, Why? of Single Stream Recycling.
HOW? Recycling has never been simpler:
*Households CAN recycle 90% of materials together
in the same container.
*Recycle newspaper in separate container or paper
bag.
*Recycled material must be rinsed or unsoiled.
*Use a covered container(s) to hold the
recyclable materials.
*Recycling container should be clearly marked as
such.
