St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School Advances in History Day Competition

On Saturday, March 16 two eighth grade teams traveled to Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven to compete in National History Day. This is the first time that St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School has ever participated in such a
competition. Professor Jennifer McLaughlin from Sacred Heart University volunteered to be moderator.

History Day is a program for students in grades 6-12. A theme is established by the History Day committee and students select a historical topic relating to the annual theme. This year's theme was Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, and Events. One team entered an exhibit,
“Technological Advancements in World War I.” Team members were John Patrick Haley, Aidan McLaughlin, Max Moeser and Jack Wiig. While they did not place among the top three finalists, their evaluation scores were excellent and they truly made us proud to call them students of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School.

Our other team entered a website entitled, “Class is Dismissed”: How the French Revolution Turned Society Upside Down”. Team members were Ryan Cimmino, Mary Rose Finnigan, Dan Fitzgerald and Sarah Kulaga. Their website placed third in the Junior Group Website division and we are proud to announce that they will be advancing to the State competition on Saturday, April 27 at Central Connecticut State University.
