Baby Crabs Bite Swimmers, Force Fairfield Swimming Area Closures
Penfield and Jennings beach were closed Wednesday after newly hatched baby crabs began biting swimmers.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Select swimming areas in Fairfield were closed Wednesday due to disruptions caused by baby crabs, according to the Fairfield Health Department.
"According to town waterfront staff, Penfield and Jennings beach are experiencing a large hatching of baby crabs and people in the water are reporting being bitten by them," the department said in an email. "They have made a decision to temporarily close these swimming areas until the condition resolves."
All other swimming areas in town remain open.
