What an exciting year it has been for BMA! Moving to our new studio on Black Rock Turnpike has been an incredible experience for our organization. This new space has allowed us to grow our community by offering more class opportunities and more productions. The BMA family is larger than ever and we're grateful to have a home here in Fairfield where we can train the next generation of performers.
We look forward to sharing with you quarterly through our newsletter, BackStage Pass, the highlights of what we are doing to connect the stars of today, with the stars of tomorrow.

JANUARY/FEBRUARY
With the success of Carrie at the end of 2018, we began rehearsals for our anticipated production of Annie, which would play Westport Country Playhouse in February. Featuring 5 professional actors from New York City, an incredibly talented ensemble of 45 local students, and a lovable, Broadway canine who is best known as Sandy; Annie was a triumph. The show received smashing reviews and played to over 4,500 patrons from the community!
JUNE
In June, we hosted the second annual Stephen Sondheim Awards. This program is Connecticut's premiere awards program for high school musical theater. Presented in part by Westport Country Playhouse and the Shubert Theatre of New Haven, the Sondheims saw nineteen particpating schools and over 1,500 guests at the black-tie gala on Monday, June 3. Broadway's Derek Klena hosted the evening, which featured a variety of Broadway perfoermers and guests. It was an unforgettable evening celebrating the best in high school musical theater.
JULY
This July we hosted our sixth annual summer musical theater intensive. Students from across the state joined us for a three-week intensive which included masterclasses with Broadway talents, including Tony Award winner, Alice Ripley.
AUGUST
Last month, we opened a production of Disney's The Little Mermaid. The production was directed by Bret Shuford, from the original Broadway cast of The Little Mermaid. It featured Broadway stars Steve Blanchard (Disney's Beauty and the Beast & Newsies) and Meredith Inglesby (The Little Mermaid - Broadway) with over 40 students from Broadway Method Academy.
