Bike, Pedestrian Upgrades Planned For Post Road In Grasmere Area

The work is expected to improve sidewalks, ramps, curbs, pedestrian signals and pavement markings, plus add bike lanes and street parking.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield will give the public an update Tuesday on planned bike and pedestrian improvements along a section of the Post Road in the Grasmere neighborhood.

The meeting will be held 6:30 p.m. via Zoom, and will be an opportunity to review preliminary design plans and hear comments.

The project, which is being funded through a state grant, is intended to enhance pedestrian facilities along Grasmere Avenue and on sections of the Post Road from the Bridgeport line to just west of Shoreham Village Drive. The effort is aimed at improving bicycle and pedestrian safety while providing better connections to surrounding neighborhoods and businesses.

The work is expected to include upgrades to sidewalks, ramps, curbs, pedestrian signals, pavement markings and other streetscape treatments, as well as to create dedicated bike lanes and additional on-street parking where feasible. The project is intended to connect to future improvements to the Post Road Circle, which is the subject of a separate study and conceptual design.

The Grasmere pedestrian improvement project is being managed by the town’s Engineering Department with support from the Office of Community and Economic Development, and is being designed by SLR International Corp., which has offices in Cheshire. Following completion of the design, work is expected to begin by mid-2022.
