Car Stolen Out of Driveway

A Collingwood Avenue man reported that his 2006 Volvo was stolen out of his driveway Friday night

The homeowner at 217 Collingwood Avenue reported Saturday morning that his 2006 Volvo station wagon had been stolen from his driveway sometime overnight.

According to police, the vehicle was locked and the homeowner had last seen it at 10 p.m. Friday night.  The value of the car is pegged at $10,000.

Health aide poser steals cash

An 80-year-old resident of the Sullivan McKinley elderly housing facility, 224 Meadowbrook Road, reported early Friday afternoon that he was robbed by a man posing as a home health aide.

According to police, at around 11:00 a.m. Friday, a man appeared at the complainant’s apartment claiming to be a home health aide. He entered the dwelling, saying he wanted to check on the resident, and began asking about the complainant’s medical history. The man, described as a black male, about 6’4”, 260 pounds with dark pants and a button-down shirt, said he would make the resident’s bed, began looking in a dresser and went in the resident’s bathroom. After the man had left, the resident discovered that $160 in cash was missing. The case is under investigation.

Two vehicles at same address robbed over past three weeks

The homeowner at 186 Soundview Avenue reported early Friday evening that his two vehicles had been entered and items had been taken from each, over the past three weeks.

According to police, around July 1, a SONY GPS, valued at $150, was stolen from the homeowner’s 2010 Ford Flex, which had been left unlocked. Then, some time between July 27 and this morning, an AGM Size 27 battery, valued at $150, was stolen from a Coachman camper parked in the driveway. A cutting tool was used to remove the battery.

Items stolen from car

A man reported early Saturday morning the theft of several items from his car as it was parked on Birch Road, near Penfield Beach.

According to police, around 4:45 a.m., when the owner of the car, a white 1998 Pontiac Bonneville, returned to his car, he found missing a car radio faceplate ($200), phone charger ($20), Keurig coffee maker ($150) and mp3 player ($300). He had left the front passenger window open. The incident is under investigation.

Truck keyed

The homeowner at 30 Raymond Circle reported late Saturday night that his 2004 tan GMC Sierra pickup had been keyed the previous night.

According to police, the victim had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend earlier in the night and he saw a car near the truck at about 3 a.m. He did not know if it was his girlfriend and he requested that police not contact here. The man estimated the damage to the car at several thousand dollars. The incident is under investigation.

Harassing phone calls, scam try

The homeowner at 146 Roberton Crossing reported early Saturday afternoon that she had received a couple of harassing phone calls, and that the callers had asked for money.

According to police, the woman first received a call from a male with a deep Jamaican accent who identified himself as “Dr. J” and told her that she owes him $150. A few minutes later, she received another call from a second man, also with a deep Jamaican accent. That caller said that he was going to give the woman’s mother a “deadly injection.” An investigating officer called one of the numbers back. He reached a man with a Jamaican accent who promptly told the officer “f--- you.”

Snowmobile engine stolen

The homeowner at 74 Rosedale Street reported early Saturday afternoon that a snowmobile engine that had been stored beside his garage had been stolen.

According to police, the engine, valued at $75, was not attached to the snowmobile at the time.

Portable radio swiped from boat

The owner of a Bayliner boat moored at South Benson Marina, 555 Turney Road, reported late Saturday afternoon that a portable radio had been taken from his boat.

According to police, the boat owner had traveled to Port Jefferson earlier in the day. Sometime afterwards, he noticed that the radio, a Cobra Marin HH475, valued at $300, was missing.

Partially stripped moped found behind BJ’s Wholesale Club

A Metroguard security guard reported early Saturday evening the discovery of a partially stripped moped behind a cargo container at BJ’s Wholesale Club, 40 Black Rock Turnpike.

Police checked the moped’s VIN number, but found no record. The bike was considered abandoned property and will be removed by BJ’s staff.

House egged by juveniles

The homeowner at 187 Nordstrand Ave. reported Saturday evening that the front window of his house had been egged and that four juveniles were responsible.

According to police, the homeowner said he saw the youths tear away on bikes headed toward Villa Avenue. Police were unable to locate the youths.

Two vehicles entered, items taken

The homeowner at 26 Greenlawn Drive reported late Saturday evening the theft of iPods and cash from two vehicles parked in the driveway.

According to police, sometime between Wednesday night and Saturday morning, the homeowner’s Nissan Pathfinder and Nissan Maxima were entered. An iPod was taken from each of the vehicles as well as a total of $40 in cash.

Window broken at home

The homeowner at 839 Burr Street reported Sunday morning that a small window next to the front door had been broken overnight.

According to police, a front window, valued at $500, was smashed. No projectile was found.

Pepperidge Farm truck vandalized

The driver of a Pepperidge Farm delivery truck reported first thing this morning that the vehicle had been broken into and its side spray painted.

According to police, sometime between 1 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 a.m. Sunday, the truck was accessed and vandalized while parked in a lot behind Super Stop & Shop, 1160 Kings Highway Cutoff. The word “LACE” had been marked on the side. Repairs were estimated at $50.

Westport woman arrested on failure to appear charge

A Westport woman, arrested after a traffic stop back on May 1, was arrested late Friday morning for failing to respond to the charges against her.

The woman, Noelle Anastasia, 22, was issued a $100 bond and court date of August 8.
