Celebrate 45 Years in the Neighborhood with the Fairfield Woods Branch Library
Saturday, September 27 from 10 am to 4:00 pm

Did you know that the Fairfield Woods Branch Library is the busiest branch library in the state of Connecticut? That over 700 people walk through our doors each day? That we have one of the few seed libraries in the nation? That’s just a sample of what we have to be happy about after 45 years in town! Join us for an all day celebration on Saturday, September 27 from 10:00-4:00 pm at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road. First Selectman Mike Tetreau will be there to kick off the festivities with a welcome at 10:45 am. Visit the Crafts Show featuring glass art, jewelry, home décor, handmade soaps, local honey and more. Take a 10:00 am exercise class, make crafts, check out the new electric car charging station, meet Pete the Cat at a story time, join a silly sing-along with Edward Leonard and Touch-a-Truck with the Fairfield Fire Department. Plus, eat cake! Look online and in our new fall program catalog for more details and times.
In addition to the celebration day, fun things are happening at the Branch throughout the month. There will be a raffle of a hand-made flag, the proceeds of which will benefit the Branch’s new Sewing Center; a scavenger hunt to learn more about the Branch; a time line of important events to visit; a search for the patrons with the longest history of using the Branch to put on our wall of fame, and more. Stop in this month to share the fun with us.
In the mid-30’s, citizens on the east side of town requested a branch library. After temporary branches were established at Stratfield School, then the fire station on Jackman Avenue, then in part of the library at Andrew Warde High School, a permanent home for the Branch on Fairfield Woods Road was established in 1969. Over 80 years ago, Fairfield citizens understood how important a branch library would be to the town and the neighborhood. We are proud that our Branch is the most active in the state, but even more proud that we are the important resource and destination that our citizens envisioned.
