FAIRFIELD, CT — A Fairfield emergency dispatcher’s quick actions recently helped save the life of a town resident who was choking.

The incident occurred Jan. 30, when an elderly woman called 911 because her husband was choking, according to police. Dispatcher Martha Kuczo took the call, helping the woman dislodge the obstruction.

“TC Kuczo immediately jumped into action and began providing life-saving CPR instructions over the phone,” a police report said. “During the course of the call, the elderly choking victim was clearly struggling to breathe. His airway was clearly obstructed and without the quick and pointed directions from TC Kuczo, this call would most certainly have had a different outcome. TC Kuczo should be commended for her actions and most especially her calm demeanor and reassurance to the caller.”
