Closures Upcoming On Route 136

One town official called the project "a pretty complicated road closure."

FAIRFIELD, CT — Drivers in Fairfield should prepare for significant closures next week on Route 136. The road will be closed for two days to allow for the removal of three large trees at risk of falling during stormy weather. Fairfield police provided town selectmen with a report on the project Wednesday.

"It's not just a regular road job," Capt. Christopher Tursi said, noting that to complete the work, four driveways will be blocked by a 100-foot crane each day of the removal.

The trees will be taken down between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday on the section of Route 136 east of Gilbert Highway and west of Treasure Road, according to town documents. Detour and arrow signs will be posted and two electronic signs are already in place. Permission for the work has been granted by the state and police will staff six affected intersections.
