Paul Taylor Dance Company To Perform Outdoor Benefit At Pequot Library

FAIRFIELD, CT — Pequot Library in Southport will host an outdoor benefit performance by the Paul Taylor Dance Company on its Great Lawn on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The event will launch the library's new Summer Stage series, which the library said is intended to become an annual performance program. According to the library, proceeds from ticket sales will support Pequot Library and future Summer Stage events.

The performance will include Brandenburgs, a 30-minute dance, and Company B, which is set to swing music. The library said the event will be the first performance by the Paul Taylor Dance Company presented between New York and New Haven.

The Paul Taylor Dance Company was founded in 1954 and is led by Artistic Director Michael Novak.

The performance is being presented in conjunction with Pequot Library's summer Special Collections exhibition, Unfinished Revolution: 250 Years of Marking American Independence, which examines the legacy of the American Revolution. The library said the dance performance complements themes explored in the exhibition.

The library cited a New York Times description of the company's body of work as "the most important archive in American culture."
