Comedy Show To Benefit Fairfield K-9 Unit

"Jokes for Jake" features five stand-up comedians and raises funds for the newest member of the Fairfield Police K-9 unit.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A group of local stand-up comedians are coming together for a night of laughs to benefit the Fairfield Police K-9 unit. “Jokes For Jake,” a stand-up comedy show at The Seagrape Café (1144 Reef Road in Fairfield), will take place on Thursday, June 14 at 8 p.m. and features five local up-and-coming stand-up comedians. Admission is free, but donations are strongly accepted and encouraged, according to organizers.

"Most people don’t realize the Fairfield Police K-9 unit is funded exclusively by donations,” said Sgt. Hector Irizarry, Fairfield Police K-9 unit supervisor. “Our K-9 officers, including our newest officer, Jake, require special in-vehicle equipment, food, vet appointments and ongoing training. The funds raised at this comedy show will support the officers that support your community.”

The five stand-up comedians set to perform include Kim Berns, Billy Connors, Steve Mueller, Mat Orefice and Eileen Fickes.

“Cause You Need A Laugh” is the comedic concept of Orefice, a longtime Fairfield resident and rookie stand-up comedian. The ongoing series supports worthwhile local causes with stand-up comedy. It’s a night where everyone wins.

“Jake the K-9 officer gets the support he needs, local residents can have a much-needed laugh, and comedians will have a place to share their funny stuff,” Orefice said.
