Deck Collapse Sends 5 To Hospital: Fairfield Police
A family was grilling Sunday on the deck when it collapsed.
FAIRFIELD, CT — A collapsed deck sent five people to the hospital Sunday evening in Fairfield, according to police. A family was grilling at 6:40 p.m. on the deck of a home on Rhode Island Avenue when the structure collapsed, causing those standing on it to fall 7 feet, Fairfield police Capt. Robert Kalamaras said. Six people were hurt and, of those, five were taken to Bridgeport Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening, according to Kalamaras.
Although the incident happened not long after a major storm blew through the area, Kalamaras said the deck collapse is believed to be unrelated to the severe weather.
