Man Hospitalized After Fairfield Shooting; 1 In Custody: Police

Fairfield detectives took a suspect into custody for questioning about 6:20 a.m., police said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A man is hospitalized after being shot overnight in Fairfield, according to police.

About 1 a.m. Thursday, the Fairfield Police Department received a report from a Cumberland Farms employee at 975 Kings Highway East that a male gunshot victim had just entered the store, police said.

The victim is a delivery driver for Miller Nissan, who was shot in the abdomen during a robbery attempt at the dealership at 930 Kings Highway East, police said. The victim was transported to an area hospital, has undergone surgery and is expected to recover, police said.

The suspect was described as a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt who fled the scene toward Castle Avenue, police said. Fairfield and Westport K-9s conducted tracks, which led to a nearby residence, but they were unable to locate the suspect at the time, police said.

During a follow-up investigation, authorities returned to the home, and detectives took a suspect into custody for questioning about 6:20 a.m., police said.

"At this time, there is no reason to believe additional suspects are at large and as such, there is no active threat to public safety," Fairfield police said. "This remains an active and ongoing investigation, with updates pending."
