Komen Greater New York City focuses on three main areas, funding research, early detection and finding a cure. One in eight women suffer from breast cancer. Here in the greater New York area Komen has raised 60 million dollars since 1990. 25% of the funds raised went to national research to find a cure and 75% stayed in area to fund programs providing care to local women. Last year alone, $2,000,000 went to 27 local organizations where 130,000 women received free breast health services.
“It’s an honor to be recognized with an Emmy nomination for work that Komen is doing for area women fighting breast cancer and their families. This is a responsibility that I take very seriously and it warms my heart to be able help women find help at a critical time in their life,“ said Ehrlich, “Like so many people in the area breast cancer has touched my life. My cousin, Joanne Ehrlich is a strong inspirational survivor who is making a difference for area women.”
Turning tragedy into triumph, Joanne Ehrlich started a charity called “Heel the Soul”. Partnering with Englewood Hospital, Joanne is using her experience and knowledge of what patients need in hospitals to create and distribute comfort bags to women with cancer. You can support, Heel the Soul on April 7th at Neiman Marcus at Garden State Plaza from 7-9pm.
