Bridgeport Summer Stage is a comprehensive immersive theatre experience for young actors entering grades 1-10 (in fall 2018), supported by a professional creative staff of directors and designers at the University of Bridgeport in downtown Bridgeport, CT. Both sessions will create a full production of a musical, starting with the initial audition and followed by a multi-week rehearsal process, culminating in an exciting weekend of performances where family and friends can enjoy your hard work from the audience. No previous experience is required
The Summer 2018 staff is led by Director Christy McIntosh-Newsom, Choreographer/Writer Lance Gray, Composer Clay Zambo, and Assistant Director Chelsea Dacey. This year’s productions will include The Lion King Jr and 13, as well as a brand new musical commissioned for our own program, Beach Party 5000BC: Battle for Olympus.

Both shows for Session #1 begin on June 25 with performances the weekend of July 13-14.
Session #2, Beach Party 5000BC: Battle for Olympus, begins on July 16 with performances August 3-4. Join your favorite teen gods and goddesses as they spend their summer vacation partying at Olympus Beach. There’s one problem. Rivals from the wet side of the shore want to expand their turf and take over Olympus. Who will be victorious when the sand settles?
A brand new musical written by last summer’s Emperor’s New Clothes team of Lance Gray and Clay Zambo. Lance and Clay will write the show based on the types and number of performers that enroll.
The program runs Mon-Fri 9:30am-3pm, with evening performances (July 13-14, Aug 3-4) for family and friends.
A sample day of the program includes: morning vocal and physical warm-ups, followed by mid-morning rehearsal for the show until lunch. After lunch activities include theatre exercises and games that teach participants about improvisation, focus, confidence, and character building. Students will also learn theatre technique, including projection, diction, as well as some dance and voice technique.
The cost of each 3-week session is $900. Students signing up for both sessions, and/or siblings signing up for the program receive a discount.
