Fairfield Teen Theatre's 38th summer Main Stage production will be The Who's TOMMY. Peter Townshend's tale of a young boy’s journey from pain to triumph is a most electrifying evening of rock and roll theatre. The classic '60s rock opera by The Who was translated to the Broadway stage by Des McAnuff into a high-energy, one-of-a-kind theatrical event in 1993. It won 5 Tony and 3 Drama Desk awards. The exhilarating score is timeless in its youthful appeal, giving the show a cross-generational appeal.
The story starts in 1940 during World War II and chronicles Tommy's life from age 4 - 18. After witnessing the accidental murder of his mother's lover by his father, 4-year-old Tommy is traumatized into catatonia, and as the boy grows, he suffers abuse at the hands of his relatives and neighbors. As an adolescent, he’s discovered to have an uncanny knack for playing pinball, and when his mother finally breaks through his catatonia, he becomes an international pinball superstar.
