Take a tour of the Powder House and learn about historic War of 1812 sites including Fort Union and Fort Defense with Betty Oderwald, president of the U.S. Daughters of 1812. The Powder House was built in 1814 to store ammunition for defense against British attacks. Following this half hour talk, participants will meet at Fairfield’s Town Green to learn about the “joyous celebration of peace and light” that followed the end of the War of 1812. Refreshments at the Old Academy will follow. The Fairfield Museum and History Center exhibit of paintings, "The War of 1812 at Sea: Marine Paintings from the J. Russell Jinishian Gallery Collection" will be open for viewing until 4pm. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the war of 1812.
