"History of Woman" Art Exhibit Opening Reception

“THE HISTORY OF WOMAN” OPENING RECEPTION AT FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY’S JUHAN CONFERENCE

FAIRFIELD,CT, JUNE 14, 2012: Montage Initiative is both pleased and excited to announce our month-long event in collaboration with Fairfield University, along with our Opening Reception at Fairfield University’s JUHAN Conference, scheduled for Thursday, June 14th from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM.

“The History of Woman” exhibit can be seen at the Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery located at The Quick Center for the Arts from May 30 to June 23, 2012. It is hosted by Montage Initiative, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization headquartered in Bridgeport and London, and its Traveling Art Gallery (TAG) program. The organization is dedicated to the development of women throughout the globe. The Quick Center’s stewardship of this relationship with Montage Initiative is an important, multi-faceted collaboration that aims prompt discussion about globalization and to raise awareness about extreme poverty and sustainable development. The exhibit is the capstone event of the Quick Center’s involvement in the University’s Global Citizenship Initiative.

During this period, from June 11-15, 2012, Fairfield University is hosting the 3rd Biennial JUHAN (Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network) Student Leadership Conference: Global Perspectives on Humanitarian Action. An estimated 200 students, faculty and staff will be attending the conference from Jesuit Universities globally and nationally to visit the exhibition, while displaying their Humanitarian Poster Art at “The History of Women’s” Opening Reception. The TAG display features pieces from local artists, students, and faculty in celebration of cultural acceptance and individual expression. Montage Initiative is dedicated to providing impoverished and disadvantaged women and families around the globe with expanded opportunities to earn a sustainable living. While Montage’s attention is currently focused on the plight of the widows in the Indian providence of Vrindavan, the organization ultimately endeavors to chip away at the reality of extreme poverty by rallying support and awareness and promoting peace-building worldwide. TAG is just one of the non-profit’s unique programs, offering space and materials for struggling artists to create and exhibit their art.

The Opening Reception is free of charge, along with the artwork presented by the JUHAN students. The “History of Woman” exhibit features over 45 local artists with over 145 works of art on display. All artwork is for sale, with proceeds to benefit Montage Initiative and The Quick Center for the Arts.
