Fairfield 4th of July Fireworks 2018 Traffic Information

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield Police have announced parking and traffic information, including tow away zones, that will be in effect for the town’s annual Independence Day Fireworks. The celebration, which will include an explosive Grucci Firework show, will take place on Monday, July 2, with a rain date of July 3, if necessary.

Fireworks explode just after dark, usually around 9:15 p.m., from a barge off of Long Island Sound so the show can be seen easily from either Penfield or Jennings Beaches. Related: Fairfield July 4th Fireworks: 2018 Guide

LIMITED PARKING:

Beach Parking lots can be accessed either with a Season Beach Pass or by purchasing a Daily Pass for $50 per vehicle (cash only).

The Park and Recreation Department is limiting the amount of non-permit vehicles that are able to purchase Daily Passes to park at the beaches. Daily Passes will be limited to the first 300 vehicles at Jennings Beach and the first 50 vehicles at Penfield Beach. A Daily Parking Fee will also be charged to park at the Ash Creek Open Space Parking Lot the day of the fireworks. Lots will fill. Plan on getting there early so as not to be disappointed.

Once the threshold is reached, no additional non-permit vehicles will be allowed into the beach parking areas. There will be an increased police presence in the beach area during the day of the fireworks.

TRAFFIC INFORMATION:

In the interest of public safety, the below listed streets will be posted with “No Parking Tow-Away” signs on July 2, 2018. Any vehicles parked in the designated tow zone areas after 5 p.m. on July 2nd (or the rain date of July 3rd if necessary) will be towed at the owner’s expense. This is a necessary action to provide an access to the beach area for fire apparatus and other emergency vehicles and to facilitate the movement of the anticipated large volume of traffic.

Streets to be posted:

• Old Post Road
• Reef Road – south on Richard White Way
• Penfield Road
• Lalley Blvd
• Rowland Road
• Edwards Street
• South Benson Road
• Portions of Fairfield Beach Road.
• Riverside Drive

All streets in the beach area will be strictly enforced for all parking violations and cars in violation will be towed at the owner’s expense.

At the start of the fireworks, approximately 9:15 p.m., streets leading from the beach area will be “one way” to the Post Road and NO TRAFFIC will be permitted to go south into the beach area until exiting traffic has cleared. (This time may vary slightly due to the starting time of the fireworks display. Typically the streets are closed 15 minutes after the start of the fireworks.) In addition, Rowland Road and Edward Street will be closed to all traffic to allow access for emergency vehicles if needed.

At the end of the fireworks no vehicles leaving the beach area will be able to turn onto Old Post or Old Field Roads. All vehicles must proceed to the Post Road. Cars using Reef Road will be directed to turn westbound on Post Road. Vehicles on South Benson Road will be able to turn right (eastbound) onto Post Road. Cars using Beach Road or Unquowa Road will be directed across the Post Road and cannot turn onto Post Road in either direction. This is to reduce the cross traffic and make it safer for pedestrians and allow for quicker clearance of the beach area. It is recommended that cars wanted to travel west after the fireworks use Penfield Beach. Cars wishing to travel east after the fireworks, should park at Jennings Beach.

RESTRICTIONS:

No fireworks of any kind, including sparklers, are allowed on any of the beaches or parking areas. In addition, alcohol and portable grills are also not permitted on Town parks or beaches. Police will be strictly monitoring the beach areas for violations.
