Fairfield Cares Student Survey Set To Begin This Month
The survey asks students certain wellness questions.
FAIRFIELD, CT — The biennial Fairfield Cares survey of Fairfield students in grades 7 through 12 is scheduled to begin on Feb. 20 and run through March 8, according to district officials.
The confidential survey, in which responses are anonymous, asks students certain wellness and social questions, and includes questions about "substance use and other risky behaviors," Fairfield Cares states:
Every two years Fairfield youth in grades 7 to 12 completed an anonymous and confidential survey that asked questions about positive things that you have in yourself, your family, friends, school, and community, as well as about substance use and other risky behaviors. This information has helped the community better understand the perspectives of Fairfield youth and has helped Fairfield CARES, a local coalition of organizations working together with youth, support healthy choices.

In December, the Board of Education voted to amend the survey by removing questions about "transgender," but will again include questions about the LGBTQ+ community.

Not all students in those grades are surveyed, and parents can opt out if they would not like for their child to take the survey.
Additionally, students can skip any questions that they do not want to answer, except the question asking their grade level.
Roughly 1,300 students participated in the 2021 survey, according to officials.
