Fairfield Coronavirus Update: 5 More Deaths In Town

There were 257 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus and 26 virus-associated deaths in Fairfield as of Saturday.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Five more Fairfield residents have been reported to have died after contracting the new coronavirus since the first selectwoman’s last update on fatalities Thursday, bringing the total number of virus-associated deaths in town to 26 as of Saturday morning, according to an email from First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick.

There were 257 confirmed cases of the virus in Fairfield as of Saturday, according to state data. Also as of Saturday, 91 town residents who had contracted the virus were confirmed to have made a full recovery, Kupchick said in the email.

“While we are still in the acceleration phase of this pandemic, new data received each day changes the models predicting the peak,” Kupchick said in the email to residents. “… According to the Fairfield Health Department, the shifting of the peak to a later date is an indicator that physical distancing is working.”

Kupchick also reported that Fairfield’s rate of positive cases per capita is below that of Fairfield County as a whole. As of Saturday, there were 7,363 confirmed cases of the virus in Fairfield County, 17,550 confirmed cases statewide and 1,086 virus-associated deaths across Connecticut, according to state data.

Kupchick also reminded residents of Gov. Ned Lamont’s recent order requiring cloth face coverings in public. The order goes into effect 8 p.m. Monday and applies to anyone in public who cannot maintain a 6-foot distance from others.
