Fairfield First Selectman's Home Vandalized
First Selectman Mike Tetreau said he thought the vandalism was likely politically motivated.

FAIRFIELD, CT — First Selectman Mike Tetreau said his home was recently vandalized.
The incident took place the evening of Sept. 18, Tetreau said, after a lengthy and heated Board of Selectmen meeting. The driveway of his home on Old Post Road was egged, he said, as was his wife's car.
Tetreau said the incident was the first case of vandalism he has experienced while living at the Old Post Road address. He said he spoke informally with the police chief about the egging, but did not file a report.

Tetreau said he thought the vandalism was likely politically motivated, and that he was not aware of anyone else in the neighborhood experiencing similar vandalism. Fairfield's local elections will be held Nov. 5, in six weeks.
"This is the type of thing we don't see during campaign season in Fairfield in general," Tetreau, a Democrat, said. "... It's not how we settle our disagreements."

The egging follows weeks of controversy in Fairfield, after two town employees and a former contractor were charged in an investigation of illegal dumping at the town public works yard and contamination connected to the yard was uncovered at sites across town.
Fairfield Republican Town Committee Chair Jamie Millington said that while the vandalism might be related to the contamination issues in town, he did not think it was the result of partisan hostility.
"In the over 20 years I've been actively involved in Fairfield politics I can't recall one time when a candidate's house or vehicle was vandalized," Millington said. "... We certainly don't condone that at all."
