Fairfield Larceny Suspect Detained On ICE Hold: Report

Two men were arrested in connection to a fraudulent credit card scheme and police learned that ICE had issued a hold for one of them.

FAIRFIELD, CT — An Ohio man who was recently arrested along with another man in connection to a scheme where they are accused of trying to get cash advances using a fraudulent credit card at several banks was detained by Fairfield Police after they learned that ICE had issued a hold for him, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The Citizen reports Bah Dembo, 57, and Jay Mobley, 45, of New York, were both arrested but Dembo was unable to post bond while Mobley was released after posting a $5,000 bond.

Police then learned that ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) had issued a hold for Dembo, who has prior felony arrests including reckless endangerment, assault, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the Citizen.

Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara told the Citizen that since Dembo had a prior record it is their obligation to assist in the process but they are not out looking for undocumented immigrants. He also said that police are there to help people “regardless of their immigration status.”

Dembo was charged with conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny and is being held on a $10,000 bond with a court date of March 30, according to state judicial records.
