In what can be described as a more relaxed and lively discussion on state, national politics and government, State Senator Tony Hwang (R-28), State Reps. Brenda Kupchick (R-132) and Laura Devlin (R-134) hosted a Pizza and Politics constituent event at Southport Brewing Company on the Post Road in Southport.

Over a slice of pizza and to promote Fairfield small businesses, the three Fairfield legislators entertained questions and concerns from residents in a casual conversation on the issues that shaped the 2015 legislative session, including the proposed tax hikes by the majority, the state of transportation in Connecticut including tolls, the widening of I-95, proposed fixes to the current (8-30g) affordable housing law, state mental health services and any new laws passed that may have a direct impact on residents.

Sen. Hwang said, “Any time we as elected representatives can connect with the people we represent is a good thing. I am always impressed with the level of knowledge and passion Fairfielders bring to the discussion, and I always learn something new from them. Monday’s Pizza & Politics event was no exception and I think it was a great way to engage with folks in a more casual setting.”

“This was a fun way to meet residents and to hear their concerns on the direction of our state. Fairfield residents have a lot at stake especially with the news that General Electric might leave Connecticut due to the unfair tax hikes passed two months ago. As your elected officials, it is important we keep people informed of what happens at the State Capitol. We are their voice, said Rep. Devlin.

“It’s a nice change to host a constituent meeting outside of a town or state government building. This more relaxed environment over pizza led to a more candid and frank discussion with some healthy debate. I appreciate the thoughtfulness and attention to detail each resident had with their concerns. I want to thank everyone who came out to meet with us,” said Rep. Kupchick.
