Fairfield Lifeguard Honored For Saving Choking Victim

The lifeguard was recently recognized for successfully performing the Heimlich maneuver on a choking victim at the beach.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Fairfield lifeguard was recently recognized for saving a choking victim by performing the Heimlich maneuver at Jennings Beach earlier this summer.

The Fairfield Parks & Recreation Commission recognized Devin Thomas for the professionalism he displayed on June 25 at Jennings Beach while responding to a beach patron who was choking.

“Mr. Thomas successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver and dislodged the chocking object,” officials wrote in a press release. “The Commission is grateful for Devin’s quick reaction when faced with such a serious situation.”

Thomas was recognized by First Selectman Mike Tetreau, Parks & Recreation Director Anthony Calabrese and Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman Scott Walker on July 26 and was further acknowledged at the Parks & Recreation Commission meeting on Aug. 16.
