Fairfield Man Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash; ID Released By Police
An arrest has been made in connection with the crash, which occurred Tuesday night on Kings Highway East in Fairfield, according to police.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Police have released the identity of the 26-year-old Fairfield man who was killed Tuesday night after the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle on Kings Highway East. A suspect was later found and arrested.
Hazem H. Mohamed died following the 7:15 p.m. crash, which occurred near Jennings Road. Initial witness reports said "that the motorcyclist was unconscious and the vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene," police said.
"A preliminary police investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was traveling west on Kings Highway East near Jennings Road when an unknown vehicle began to turn east onto Jennings Road directly into the path of the motorcyclist and a collision occurred," said Fairfield Police Lt. Michael Paris in a statement. "The vehicle involved, which was described as a dark colored Honda Pilot, immediately fled the scene."

Mohamed was transported to Bridgeport Hospital immediately following the crash, where he
was pronounced dead, according to police.
"Following a very thorough and quick investigation by the Fairfield Police Crash Investigation Unit, a suspect vehicle was quickly obtained," Paris said. "Working in collaboration with the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau, at approximately 9:20 p.m., a suspect was identified and subsequently placed under arrest leaving his home in Bridgeport. Fairfield Police located the striking vehicle parked at a home on Grace Street in Fairfield."

The suspect is 39-year-old Jairo Guadalupe Lopez-Bonilla, of Norman Street, police said. He was charged with the following:
- Negligent Homicide with a Motor Vehicle
- Evading Responsibility Causing Death
Lopez-Bonilla was held in lieu of bail of $250,000, and he is scheduled to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Wednesday.
"The Fairfield Police extend their deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased motorcyclist and thank all witnesses involved for their cooperation in this investigation," Paris said.
