Fairfield PD: Racist Video Incident Was Handled By School
A video that used racist language was circulated among a group of Fairfield Woods Middle School students this week, administrators said.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield police were not involved in the investigation into the circulation of a racist video at Fairfield Woods Middle School this week, as the incident was handled by school and district officials, according to Lt. Michael Paris.
"It was not reported to Fairfield Police," Paris said in an email to Patch on Friday. "The Principal, Colleen Banick, stated this was an isolated incident with a small group of friends. The video was not directed towards a victim. Principle Banick worked directly with the interim superintendent Dr Tracy on this matter. This incident was handled internally that resulted in school discipline."
The contents of the video have not been disclosed, but school officials learned of it this week, which prompted Banick to write a letter to parents to notify them about it.

"Parents, we are asking for your partnership in monitoring your child’s online presence and posts within all social media platforms frequented by our students as a preventative measure," Banick wrote.
She added that "those involved will be held accountable for their actions" in relation to the video, but the number of students involved, and the extent of the discipline, were not disclosed.
