Fairfield Prep Fans Accused Of Anti-Semitism During Game: Report
A Staples coach has accused some visiting Fairfield Prep fans of yelling anti-Semitic chants and other inappropriate behavior.

WESTPORT, CT — A Staples lacrosse coach has accused some fans from the visiting Fairfield College Preparatory School of yelling anti-Semitic chants and other inappropriate behavior during Wednesday's game, the Norwalk Hour reported.
According to the Hour, the group of fans, collectively referred to as the Bomb Squad, allegedly yelled the chants when one of the Jewish Staples players scored. They are also accused of holding up a sign that referenced male genitalia and urinating on both the high school and cars in the parking lot.
Fairfield Prep Principal Robert A. Perrotta denounced the alleged actions of the fans in a letter sent home to parents Friday, and said he had addressed the events of the game with the student body, the Hour reported.

On Saturday, State Senate Candidate Will Haskell, a Staples alum, released a statement regarding the alleged incident.
"I am angered and dismayed by reports of anti-Semitic chants and other offensive behavior directed at Staples High School lacrosse players during their playoff game on Wednesday," Haskell said. "We cannot tolerate bigotry in our community.

Haskell also said he believed, as an alum, it is "incumbent upon each of our current and prospective leaders" to condemn this sort of behavior.
"We are failing our students if they cannot feel safe in the classroom and on the field, regardless of their religious affiliation," Haskell said. "In a letter to the first American synagogue in 1790, George Washington promised that bigotry would be “given no sanction” in the United States. We must all work tirelessly to fulfill that promise."
