Fairfield Prep Seeks To Expand Its Gym With 2-Story Addition
The 32,680-square-foot addition would add a 200-seat blackbox theater and other upgrades.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Looking to expand its offerings to students, Fairfield Prep has applied to the Fairfield Town Plan and Zoning Commission to construct a new, two-story addition of 32,680 square feet to its Brissette Gymnasium.
According to the application, the addition would create a 200-seat "arts and media blackbox theater," a new three-court basketball venue with 800 seats, a weight and rowing room, locker rooms and coaching rooms.
The addition will require the elimination of 20 parking spaces.

"These new facilities will significantly enhance the flexibility to offer expanded arts and athletic programs for which current space is inadequate or simply does not exist," wrote attorney John Fallon, who represents the private school, in the application.
The Town Plan and Zoning Commission is scheduled to review the application during a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairfield Regional Fire School.

Fairfield Prep, an all-boys Jesuit, Catholic day high school, is on the campus of Fairfield University, and has a total enrollment of 800 students. Tuition for the 2023-24 school year was $24,650.
Colleen Adams, Prep's Assistant Vice President of Communications, told Patch that the project is in keeping with its dedication toward improving the educational experience of its students.
"Fairfield Prep takes pride in continually enhancing our programs and facilities for the educational and co-curricular needs of our students," Adams said. "In our Jesuit, Catholic tradition we focus on the education of the whole person, which includes arts, athletics, academics, and the full student experience. As our enrollment and programs continue to grow and flourish, we are pleased that we will have the opportunity and resources to grow and enhance our campus facilities in support of our campus master plan. More details will be made available as our future projects are approved by the Town of Fairfield and Fairfield University. This fall, Prep is pleased to welcome more than 800 boys and more than 200 freshmen to our school campus."
