FAIRFIELD, CT — In an effort to help boost local tourism, the town's Office of Community & Economic Development will re-issue the popular Fairfield Town Map & Guide this spring, according to Fairfield Director of Economic Development Mark Barnhart.

The hand-drawn map was originally commissioned from Bart Arnold, a Massachusetts-based artist.

"We first published the map in 2016, and did a re-print in 2019," Barnhart told Patch. "This will be the third update and re-print. We continue to use the original map drawing with only very minor edits/updates."

The map has become a staple of Fairfield's tourism efforts, and also serves as an advertising vehicle for local businesses, which can buy ad space on the front or back.

"We have a variety of ad sizes available, so the number of businesses that we can feature depends upon the ad sizes selected," Barnhart said. "I estimate that we can feature roughly two dozen businesses, and we have a number of commitments from current advertisers already, so ad space is truly limited."

More than 50,000 maps will be printed, and they will be distributed for free at more than 280 locations in town and throughout the New York metro area.

"Fairfield is the quintessential New England town with a rich history, picturesque coastline and a vibrant downtown," Barnhart said. "There's lots to see and do, and many places to eat, making Fairfield a great place to visit, relax and unwind."

In addition to the map itself and the ad panels, the document also features a brief description of Fairfield, and information on its history, major cultural attractions and points of interest. It also offers directions to the town.

Barnhart said he hopes the new maps will be ready by the first of May for distribution.

Ads and sponsorship opportunities are being sold on a first-come, first-served basis through March 3. Interested businesses should contact Marketing Coordinator Mary Alice Limperopulos at 203-256-3120 or mlimperopulos@fairfieldct.org.
