Fairfield Public Schools Seeks Bus Drivers, Other Positions

Students returned to public schools in Fairfield this week.

FAIRFIELD, CT — With public schools underway this week in Fairfield, the district is navigating a shortage of 10 bus drivers, according to Superintendent Michael Testani.

Additionally, officials are also looking to fill another 30 positions throughout the district, including administrative, teaching and clerical jobs.

Testani spoke briefly about the bus driver shortage during Tuesday night's Board of Education meeting, and said the district has not encountered any issues on the first day of school.

"Buses are running, as we would say, efficiently, because they are all assigned," Testani said.

The district has concerns, however, because First Student, the bus company used in Fairfield, is also now being used to transport public school students in Westport.

"That's going to be competing for the same driver pools," Testani said. "That's problematic."
