Fairfield Residents Can Request A Shade Tree For Spring Planting
"In order to increase the tree canopy in town, we will only be planting shade trees on the non-utility line side of the street this spring."
FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Forestry Committee is accepting requests for its Tree Planting Program, an initiative aimed at increasing the town’s tree canopy by planting trees in public rights of way.
The program is managed by the committee in coordination with Jeffrey Minder, the town's Tree Warden. It encourages residents to request the planting of trees along the public portion of their property.
For a fee of $200, a member of the Forestry Committee will conduct a site visit to help select an appropriate tree. The town will then plant the tree in the public right-of-way along the property line. The fee covers the consultation, the tree, planting and a watering bag, if space allows.

"In order to increase the tree canopy in town, we will only be planting shade trees on the non-utility line side of the street this spring," First Selectperson Christine Vitale wrote in a recent town update. "This means we will not be planting trees under the utility wires and thus there will be no ornamental trees available for the Spring 2026 season."
Demand for the program is typically high, and available spots are limited. Residents can request a tree by submitting a Service Request through the town's website. Applicants should select “Request for Service,” then “Tree Issues,” followed by “Tree Planting Request.”
