The Fairfield Rugby Club defeated Cheshire, 26-13, on Sunday to move closer to repeating as Connecticut River Valley League champions.
Fairfield's forwards controlled play all day, pounding the ball relentlessly up the field. Matt McDonald, Steve Halliday, Tom McNamara, Ben Philpott and Dan Skelton provided continuous pressure on Cheshire from start to finish.
Three of the four Pegasi tries resulted from strong drives by the forward pack, with Neil Ehlers, Marcio Ventura and Dylan Thomas touching the ball down for scores.

Myles McQuone also appeared to have scored, but the referee ruled that the ball was held up by Cheshire. Still, McQuone was a force for Fairfield throughout the match.
Karl Rempe also scored a try by taking a beautiful off-load pass from Ventura and streaking past the Cheshire defense.

When the forwards did release the ball out to the backs, Fairfield put together some its best attacking maneuvers of the season, with the ball moving deftly from one back to another, always moving forward and in tight support.
Connor O'Neill and Dan French dominated their opposites at the center positions. The deep three of Mike Jacob, Will Bechtel and Brandon MacBreairty bentbut never broke against Cheshire's strong kicking game, and counter-attacked often to put the Pegasi into good scoring position.
Dan Skelton and Dawud Mohammed both stepped in to play their first A side matches, and performed well.
Fairfield will meet Simsbury High School next Sunday in a battle of the unbeatens with the league trophy on the line.
