Fairfield's John Mayer Cancels Spring Tour Due to Throat Condition

Mayer, who grew up in Fairfield, is taking an indefinite hiatus from live performing because he is suffering from granuloma, an inflammation of the throat due to injury or infection, according to a statement on his website.

Grammy Award-winner and native has canceled his spring U.S. tour due to complications resulting from his throat surgery last year.

The graduate was set to perform April 22 show at the Toyota Presents Oakdale Theater in Wallingford.

"Nothing feels worse than having to break the stage down before the performance, and I mean nothing," Mayer said in the statement. "I love this band you were going to hear, I love the guys and girls I work with, and the only thing that stops me from devolving into a puddle of tears is knowing that it's a long life, and the greatest gift in the world is being able to create music no matter what the circumstances.”
