Fairfield Students Disciplined for Racial Slur: UPDATE

Two students have been disciplined after a racial slur was made at a high school sporting event and posted on social media.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Two Fairfield Ludlowe students have been disciplined after video of a racial slur directed at black students during Tuesday night’s boys’ soccer game against rival Fairfield Warde spread on social media on Wednesday, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The Citizen reports that both the student shown using the slur and the student who took the video and posted it on social media have been disciplined. The punishment that was handed out wasn’t disclosed.

Warde won the annual Swedish Cup showdown Tuesday night, beating Ludlowe for the first time since 2004 with a 1-0 victory, according to the Connecticut Post.

“Earlier this evening, we learned of a racial slur that was allegedly posted on social media by one of our high school students,” Interim Superintendent of Schools Stephen Tracy said in a statement that was issued at 12:42 a.m. “To say the least, the language in this post is unacceptable and completely unrepresentative of what we are as a community and a school system.

“Our headmasters and I will be pursuing this matter vigorously beginning first thing Thursday morning. We will also be contacting staff and parents at both of our high schools.”
