Fairfield Native Killed In Domestic Violence Incident In Virginia

Support is pouring in to assist the family with bringing the woman home to CT to be buried after she was killed in a hit-and-run in Virginia

FAIRFIELD, CT — A former Fairfield resident was killed in a domestic violence incident Friday in Virginia and an online fundraising campaign has been launched to assist the family with funeral expenses and to bring her home to Connecticut. Dawn Meade, 40, was found dead by a neighbor Friday morning in Virginia after a hit-and-run incident on Thursday night, according to WTVR.

“This past weekend, I lost my mother unexpectedly to domestic violence,” Joseph Muratori wrote on a GoFundMe page created to assist with funeral expenses. “She was taken from this world tragically and way too soon. Dawn Meade was born on March 15, 1977 in Norwalk, CT and raised in Fairfield County with her parents. At 16 years old, she gave birth to her one and only son (me), Joseph Muratori. She dedicated herself to giving a better life to me. She had the most radiating smile and the biggest heart.

“Towards the end of her life, Dawn had moved to Virginia to better her life. She began telling me what was happening. I begged my mother to come home. Well, on September 22 2017, my mother was killed by her abusive boyfriend. Anybody in any type of relationship that is abusive or know someone that is don't hesitate to reach out for help.”

Meade’s boyfriend, 30-year-old Gregory P. Veres, has been charged with second-degree murder, WTVR reports. Authorities took Veres into custody on Friday after he was questioned about the hit-and-run when he called in reporting that his car was heavily damaged.

WTVR reports Meade was discovered by a neighbor at about 8 a.m. on Friday morning and investigators determined that she was killed in a hit-and-run that occurred at about midnight. Veres was scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning (Sept. 25).

“Mom you were taken from us to soon,” Muratori wrote on the GoFundMe page. “When the sun rises in the sky and sets beneath the shoreline, it shines your beauty on everything it touches. You will never really leave us. You are everywhere that is beautiful. You don't understand what I would give up or do to hear your voice one more time or give you the biggest hug of all time.”

Muratori said he needs help getting his mother back to Connecticut, “so I can bury her where she belongs — with her family.”

“I am one of the very few family members she has left,” Muratori said. “Funeral arrangements are difficult enough as it is to plan, but the financial burden and responsibility that comes along with it only stresses me and my family out more. Any little bit helps. I would appreciate any donations. My mom belongs in Connecticut, I need her to come home so I can be close to her once again.”

More than $10,000 has been raised within the first day of the campaign, as of Monday afternoon. Visit the GoFundMe page here.
