Goats, Sheep Sought To Fight Invasive Plants In Fairfield: Report
Fairfield is looking to hire around 12 goats or sheep to help control invasive plants, according to a report.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield is looking to hire around 12 goats or sheep as part of an effort to control invasive plants on Hoydens Hill, according to the Fairfield Citizen.
The Citizen reports the goats or sheep would be used to graze on about 8 acres on the two northernmost fields of the 96-acre property to knock down mugwort, instead of using chemicals. A contractor is using herbicides to clear out the other areas, according to the Citizen.
Llamas could also be used to protect the goats or sheep from coyotes or foxes at night, the Citizen reports.
