GoFundMe Page Launched to Support Fairfield K-9 Unit

The department's K-9 unit is entirely funded by corporate and private donations from the community.

A GoFundMe account has been launched to help support the Fairfield Police Department’s K-9 unit, which is entirely funded by corporate and private donations from the community.

The page states that the K-9 unit “does not replace a Police Officer, but serves as a valuable tool in combating and deterring crime. It is often the determining factor in conducting a search or achieving a peaceful arrest.”

It also lists the use of the K-9 unit in the following incidents:

  • Building searches
  • Tracking and searching for missing persons, suspects or evidence
  • Apprehension of criminal suspects
  • Narcotic raids and searches
  • Crowd control for violent and/or unruly crowds
  • Handler & Officer Protection

The department has listed a fundraising goal of $13,500 on the page, which was created Nov. 17. About $425 had been raised as of Friday afternoon. (Update: More than $1,000 had been raised as of 5 p.m. on Saturday)

Donations to the K-9 program are tax deductible under section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code.
