Historic Fairfield Lighthouse Could House Cremated Remains

The historic lighthouse could see new life as the home of cremated remains.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A historic Fairfield lighthouse could be used to store cremated remains after gaining approval of the Connecticut House of Representatives on Tuesday. The bill was described by some lawmakers as perhaps the “weirdest” of an eclectic day of business at the state house, according to the CT Mirror.

The CT Mirror reports the bill, which heads to the Senate for final approval, authorizes the use of the Penfield Reef Lighthouse as a columbarium — a final resting place for urns containing cremated remains.

The bill comes from a partnership that was struck by Americas Castles LLC and the Eternal Light Foundation, a non-profit group, according to the CT Mirror.
