Historic Hi-Ho Sign Comes Down In Fairfield

The neon sign has been a local landmark just off the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield for decades.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The historic Motel Hi-Ho neon sign off the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield has come down after more than 55 years, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The sign has been a local landmark just off Exit 44 for decades. (To sign up for Fairfield breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

It isn’t a complete end of an era, however, as the Citizen reports work began on Monday to replace the sign with a nearly identical one. The new sign will still feature the red, white and black letters but the new LED lights will read “Hotel” instead of “Motel” and “Restaurant Cocktail Lounge” will be replaced with “Barcelona Wine Bar,” according to the Citizen.
