Horizons At Sacred Heart University Receives Community Service Award

The program is being lauded for its dedication to making positive change in the community.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Greater Bridgeport Section of the National Council for Negro Women has recognized Horizons at Sacred Heart University with the Marie W. Morgan Community Service Award.

The award, presented annually at the organization’s Founders’ Luncheon, honors a local group committed to improving community health and safety. This year’s recipient, Horizons at Sacred Heart, provides academic support, enrichment activities, and social-emotional development for students in Bridgeport from pre-kindergarten through high school.

Ashley Nechaev, executive director of Horizons at SHU, said the recognition underscores the program’s impact.

“It is a profound honor to accept this award on behalf of Horizons at SHU,” Nechaev said. “This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team and highlights the role we play in the Bridgeport area.”

Nechaev emphasized the growing need for educational support programs, calling Horizons a “powerful out-of-school-time program” that helps students reach their full potential.

Horizons at SHU operates as an affiliate of the national Horizons organization, which provides educational programming to students from under-resourced communities.
