Hundreds Still Without Power In Fairfield, UI Says

The fire department responded to more than 50 fallen trees during Wednesday's storm, many of which took down wires, a fire official said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Hundreds of Fairfield residents were without power Thursday after a storm brought heavy wind and rain through the area overnight.

As of about 12:30 p.m., 240 United Illuminating Co. customers had no electricity, according to the company's outage map. The number of customers affected was down, from 400 without power about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Fairfield Fire Department responded to more than 50 fallen trees during the storm, many of which took down wires, Assistant Chief Schuyler Sherwood said.

"It certainly was a very busy time for us," he said, noting local viaducts flooded during the storm.

There were no major injuries as a result of the weather, Sherwood said.

A few roads remained partially obstructed early Thursday afternoon, he said, but much of the cleanup was complete.

"We're almost back to normal," he said.

Fairfield is under a high wind warning until 6 p.m. Thursday, with the potential for gusts of up to 55 mph.
